The National Minimum Wage sets minimum hourly rates that employers must pay their workers. It covers almost all workers in the UK and includes three age based rates and an apprentice rate.
We will inform you of the new rates each year, however, it is up to you as the Employer to monitor and inform us of any National Minimum Wage increases required both annually and due to change of circumstance (such as age).
From 1st April 2017 the National Minimum Wage rates will increase:
Apprentices in first year or apprenticeship or aged under 19 – £3.50
16 to 17 years old (who are not apprentices) From £4 to £4.05
18 to 20 years old From £5.55 to £5.60
21 to 24 years old From £6.95 to £7.05
25 years and over From £7.20 to £7.50
